Durban Gay and Lesbian Pride

DURBAN is set to come alive again this year as Durban Pride 2013 raises the Gay Flag to mark yet another successful event celebrating diversity on grounds of human diversity, sex, gender and sexual orientation.

Durban Pride encourages lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people to rise above the discrimination, ‘hate crimes’, gay-bashing, ‘corrective rape’ and other injustices; and challenges friends, families and colleagues to rise above fear and prejudice and promote equality and dignity for all.

Durban Pride promotes Durban as the safer gay city in South Africa. It provides diversity training and encourages Durban business, especially within the hospitality and tourism industries to ensure that Durbanites and all our visitors, experience and remember Durban as the gayest city in Africa.

The Pride Advisory Committee wants Durban Pride 2013 to be an experience relevant to all; celebrating each person, diverse identities, cultures and histories. While the Durban Pride 2013 Theme Competition ended Monday 29th April, you can still give us a call or write to us to find out how you can get involved.

This year, Durban Pride will run concurrently with the Durban Gay and Lesbian Film Festival hosted by the KZN Gay and Lesbian Tourism Association. This year’s festival promises an exciting array of films. This would be at the KZNSA Art Gallery in Glenwood. More can be organized and achieved from the 22nd June to the 30th June as a result YOUR PARTICIPATION IS CRITICAL. Stall Applications are now open. We invite civil society and business to come on board towards organizing and finalizing a Fringe Events Programme. We need volunteers – marshalls, bar guys and girls, transporters, decorators, recyclers, etc.

ABOUT DURBAN PRIDE
DURBAN PRIDE® is an expression and celebration of sexual diversity within the city and municipality. It is a commemoration of all life lost as a result of discrimination and oppression on grounds of sex, gender and sexual orientation. It is a public campaign and space within which we express our resistance to accept, and our outrage over, the growing number of senseless abuse, violence, rape and murder of people identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender in our communities.

Thanks so much for reading, hope to see you again :)
