Jazz At The Drakensberg

The Ukhahlamba region, will come alive when music lovers from all walks of life come together for the inaugural Jazz at the Drakensberg on Saturday, 3 November at the Royal Natal National Park.

The event will feature jazz artists such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Ernie Smith, Ndu Shezi and the award winning Nduduzo Makhathini, and hosted by SABC 1 Daily Thetha presenter, Kini Shandu. Jazz At The Drakensberg, is set to boost destination tourism and be a highlight in the tourism activities and event calendar of the region. “The vision is to attract international artists and travelers alike, we hope to grow it to become a three-day event, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Drakensberg while enjoying the smooth sounds of jazz. We hope to capitalize on this advantage and bring national domestic touring markets to the Berg so that they can spend on local tourism products which will sustain local jobs,” Thabani Mazibuko, of Outrage Concepts.

Patrons are encouraged to bring along their picnic baskets, umbrellas, camp chairs and cooler boxes so that they can just sit back, relax and enjoy all the planned festivities.

Jazz at the Drakensberg is enjoying support from the national Department of Arts & Culture, National Lotteries Commission and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, a governmental organisation responsible for maintaining wildlife conservation areas and biodiversity. The Royal Natal National Park, offers one of the best scenic views, dramatic mountains and waterfalls and is located at the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, it forms part of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.

Tickets for the Jazz At The Drakensberg, are now available at Computicket, R150 for general and R400 for VIP. Gates open at 10am.
