#MyRadioPeople : Inanda FM’s Luyanda Hlongwane

Why radio? I chose radio because it lives inside me, it makes me feel alive and happy all times, No matter how down I feel at that specific time but once I am on radio I become a happy and free soul.
Which other radio stations have you worked at?
Back in 2017 I used to be part of a radio station called Kasie FM (located in Joburg) as an intern..

Did you study radio? I actually studied journalism and media studies( which includes radio) so that where I was able to gather all possible important information about radio before I actually become an intern at Kasie FM.
Besides Radio, which other side projects are you currently busy with or are involved in?
Beside radio I normally write short movies on my spare time / on my free time especially regarding the issues that affects the whole communities such as drugs, raping and killing of children, etc and the whole aim for this is to create awareness so we could stop doing this as communities.

Who is your South African Radio Icon?
DJ SBU, I look up to him in every way because not only is he a believer but he is also a dreamer , an achiever and a living legend. He really motivates me.
What can we expect from you in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years I would love to open a online / community radio station so that I can be able to give an opportunity to young university graduate so they can gain experience and grow within Radio.
How often do you listen to other radio stations and which radio stations do you usually listen to?
I do listen to different radio stations from time to time and Y 99.2 FM is the radio station that I listen to the most because they always providing important and relevant content and information, they also play the freshest music at all times.
What has working on radio taught you?
Working on Radio has taught me that you should always make sure to gather interesting and new content so the listeners can always be up to date with every information and that your eyes and ears should always be open at all times.
What advice can you give to aspiring radio broadcasters?
What I can say to aspiring radio broadcasters is that , be you and do you all the time for you are in no race so be patient with yourself and your time will come when no one is expecting you to break it through in the media industry, God’s timing is never wrong.
