#MyRadioPeople : Jozi FM’s Refiloe Motsei

I met Refiloe Motsei last week Friday when Jozi FM came down to Durban for their 22 years Birthday Celebrations. I fell inlove with her personality as I was sitting at uShaka Marine watching her do her with thing. Her energy showed that she truly enjoys what she’s doing, I immediately followed her on social media hoping to feature her on this series and her humble self was quick to respond to my mails, so here’s this weeks #MyRadioPeople feature.

Why radio? I did not choose radio, radio chose me, I simply won a competition to chill with certain radio personalities from a community radio station on their show, I ended up taking over their show not knowing the station manager was listening at the time, she called me the next day and the rest is history, I had never thought of radio, but now, My God I’m in love with it, I get to inform, motivate and entertain at the same time, wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Which other radio stations have you worked at? Voice of Tembisa & Anglo Platinum Radio.

Did you study radio? I never studied radio, I think it’s pure talent.

Besides Radio, which other side projects are you currently busy with or are involved in? Besides radio, I’m a television host for a current affairs show called Soweto Today, airing every Monday evening 20:30 channel 251 Soweto TV, I do motivational speaking for women and young girls, I am a selector of good music (Dj) RnB and Soul music. I’m also Master of Ceremonies.

Who is your South African Radio Icon? Favorite radio icon, phew, I have a few for different reasons, From Keino Kammies (Cape talk) Bob Mabena (Kayafm) Bonang Matheba (Ex MetroFm)to TBose (KayaFm).

What can we expect from you in the next 5 years? Haha, in the next 5 years, wow, I would love to venture into acting, my own business, and haha, wealth.

How often do you listen to other radio stations and which radio stations do you usually listen to? Quite often, I have to listen to my competitors, also, you get to learn how different techniques and skills.

What has working on radio taught you? Radio has taught me that Nothing is about me.

What advice can you give to aspiring radio broadcasters? My advice is pretty simple and might sound cliche ,but, BE YOUR SELF ” . Trust me , it’s works.

I have seen that you guys are enjoying these interviews so I will try my best to be consistent in introducing a new personality weekly.
