#MyRadioPeople : MegaZone Hit Radio’s Phila Peezy Duma

In his mid-twenty’s, Phila Duma AKA Peezy is a multi-talented KZN born and raised hustler who’s in-love with the media. Phila is an award winning photographer and recently been announced as the new presenter for Umhlanga radio station MegaZone Hit Radio. Not new to the radio industry, he has worked at Vuma FM as an intern and been involved within the media for a number of years. This week I got him to share his radio journey with me.

Why radio?

Radio is my main chick and I love it to death! It’s a platform that gives you the power and the ability to raise content that isn’t given enough attention. It allows you to connect with people from different cultures and have a dialogue about anything and everything.

Which other radio stations have you worked at?

My radio journey has been quite lengthy, Radio and I started dating back in 2013 when I became a News Anchor on Muslim community Radio station, Radio Al-Ansaar. 2 years later I decided to marry the platform when I joined VumaFM as journalist and a weekend breakfast co-host. I’m still yet fulfilling my hubby duties, but now as a presenter on MegaZone Hit Radio

Did you study radio?

No! I did not study Radio and never will. I believe the platform requires talent more than anything. It’s either you have the potential or you don’t. What you can do though, is master the art and take from other radio personalities.

Besides Radio, which other side projects are you currently busy with or are involved in?

Photography is my baby and I love capturing events!!! I currently run Peezy Images, a photography line that I established and won an award for last year. Yup! According to the LYD SA Youth Awards I am your Best Photographer for 2017.

Who is your South African Radio Icon?

Definitely my second mom- Zakia Ahmed Siddiqi, Linda Sibiya, Bonang Matheba and Dineo Ranaka. I can never choose a specific one between the four. I think they are incredible broadcasters who reinvent the medium every time they speak.

What can we expect from you in the next 5 years?

Peezy being a bigger and better brand. Radio is now a ticked item off my bucket list and Television is undoubtedly next.

How often do you listen to other radio stations and which radio stations do you usually listen to?

I hardly listen to Radio and I could punch myself in the face for that because nothing is as important as getting grips with what other Radio hosts and stations are getting up to.

Thanks so much for reading, hope to see you again :)
