#MyRadioPeople: Sizwe Buthelezi

Why radio? Well it all started when I was stranded in Los Angeles, United States of America when i joined the old Black Facebook group, I started Doing live videos and I saw negative vibes going around, I came up with the idea of installing positivity in the group by coming up with the innovative idea of merging Tv and Radio, Then Shaped and named my live videos “Black Facebook Fm “ and the crowds responded positive and told me that I have the Radio voice, Well that’s when I gained more strength and passion to go further with the idea, Today I breath radio, the love is on the other level, I found the piece of me that was lost in the bushes and that piece is Radio.

Which other radio stations have you worked at? Well I never worked in any radio station before, It is my first time on Convenience Radio that is founded by me and Fiona Mngomezulu my co-Partner.

Did you study radio? I never studied Radio Before and well I am in the process of starting studies in Radio and broadcasting since I am already in the Industry and ready to grow and understand the dynamics associated with radio and Tv. I have a Qualification in Agriculture (N Dip Horticulture).

Besides Radio, which other side projects are you currently busy with or are involved in? Well I am about to start working with well Known Agricultural Professionals, who pursued a lot in Agricultural imports and exports in well known Agricultural companies. Although some deals are not sealed but there are no hindrances that seams to stop the processes so far.

Who is your South African Radio Icon? Mama “Lady D “ Dudu Khoza- I leant a lot from her at younger age, I grew up listening to Ukhozi Fm, I always admired how She always able to migrate from uncomfortable questions , how she always be able interact with everyone, how she always know how to address issues with sophistication and calmness, She’s the reason why I became who I am today in terms addressing issues out of my Comfort zone.

Alex Mthiyane from Gagasi Fm- The character and the energy of Alex caught my attention always, It made me wanna be the next Alex Mthiyane, He inspires me to grow in Radio and do better, the way he handle himself on Air, The calmness and sophistication in his interviews is on another level, I respect the guy and I wanna be like him in the near future.

What can we expect from you in the next 5 years? In the next Five I wanna be recognized as one of the best presenters in South Africa, I wanna be recognized as the first South African to merge TV and Radio and thrive in the Social Media World wide, Convenience Radio will be the first Social Media Radio to be listened all over the world. In the next five years I will be one of the Youngest Farmers to work will highly recognized farmers in the Agricultural Industry.

How often do you listen to other radio stations and which radio stations do you usually listen to? Almost the Whole day, the only time I don’t listen to Radio Is when I am In Radio, I listen to Nongoma Fm when I am Home, Ukhozi Fm, Gagasi Fm and Intokozo Fm.

What has working on radio taught you? Working on radio taught to me to care for the Society more than me, Radio opened my eyes wide enough to see that in this world, we all need each other in different ways. Radio taught me love and support hence I got more deep into issues that affect the human race or the society as a whole, that awakened hidden things that I never knew about the human race.

What advice can you give to aspiring radio broadcasters? Be yourself, Don’t fake your voice and try to be someone else you know in the industry, people will love you for who you are and not  for being able to talk or act like someone else. Do not undermine the power of Community Radios, Start there so that you will grow and know what are the dynamics of being a radio presenter, What can you do yo uplift yourself as a presenter and as well community Radio will always make you a better person. Normalize to have Role models as you will be able to shape yourself and always enthusiastic to thrive and become like the person you look up into.

Thanks so much for reading, hope to see you again :)
