#MyRadioPeople : UCT Radio’s Thabo Mzondi Mgxekwa

Why radio? I’ve always loved being behind the mic and entertaining the masses, also the love for music and sharing an experience with a listener is just out of this world. Also, Eddie Zondi said he’d love to work with me at Metro FM.
Which other radio stations have you worked at?
I’ve worked at Radio Zibonele and Bushrdio.
Did you study radio? I didn’t study radio, I guess it was the passion and learning as the journey uncovered itself to me

Besides Radio, which other side projects are you currently busy with or are involved in? Currently working on a podcast with a couple of friends which also aims at awakening the thinking mind of the young people and getting them involved in solving issues that are faced by us the youth

Who is your South African Radio Icon? There’s a lot, and they have different roles they play: Khabzela, Dj Fresh, Azania, Rams Mabote, Ayanda Cawe, Adian Tomas, Phat Joe, Bob Mabena, Chilli M.

What can we expect from you in the next 5 years? I looking at branching out to commercial radio station, also heading drives that will enrich the townships I’m from and be a helping hand for the young ones coming up

How often do you listen to other radio stations and which radio stations do you usually listen to? Every day, one has to diversify and learn. R2000, Metro FM, 5Fm.

What has working on radio taught you? Radio has taught me to be humble. Radio has taught me the importance of putting yourself in the next person’s shoes, what you might have gone through, might be ones journey at that point in life. This is a medium not to be taken lightly it’s a platform to educate and to also have fun

What advice can you give to aspiring radio broadcasters? One thing that I’ve been taught as well is that be yourself and respect the medium. Do what you love with passion and all will be revealed to you.

Thanks so much for reading, hope to see you again :)
