Q&A: Thami Mathonsi Is Making Waves On NXT LVL TV Show

Pinetown born 21 year old Thamsanqa Vuyo Thobile Mathonsi, a Drama student at the University of Kwazulu – Natal. Thami looks up to his mentor, Ndumiso ‘Brazo’ Njapha and the legendary Ringo Madlingozi.  He sees his NXT LVL as to one day have his own best-selling album and be able to take care of his family.

How did you find out about the Vodacom NXT LVL show? I was told by my high school friend. He believed I could get through if I entered.

How has your life changed since joining the show? My life has changed a lot. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel, after working so hard for a breakthrough. The NXT LVL TV show has opened my eyes more about the music industry.

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing for a career? I think I would be a very good teacher (giggles). My parents and my older sister are all teachers so I think I would’ve gotten into the family tradition.

The show, how has the experience been thus far? It is so amazing. To meet such great talents in my fellow contestants and to be paired up with industry heavyweights is an overwhelming experience. I think this was meant to be… I feel like it’s my purpose to succeed in doing what I love.

What can people expect from the show entirely? It’s plain and simple; great moments, sad moments, happy moments and all that’s in between. Our journeys to the NXT LVL are a real bumpy ride. People must brace themselves for some surprises.

What can people expect from you on the show? Expect to see me at my best and my lowest. It is a real rollercoaster for me both musically and emotionally. So, I plan to give all the challenges my best.
