Representing Inanda: OldBoy Clothing Brand

Last week I was invited by the guys behind one of Durban’s newest fashion brands, OldBoy Clothing to their very first official photo-shoot at uShaka Marine World. The shoot was directed and photographed by Sphephelo Mlungwana and Lindani Mbanjwa, the brains behind 39 Degrees Film Studio ( – a photography and film production house based in Durban.

Oldboy brand

Old Boy Clothing is an Africa inspired fashion brand producing formal and casual wear as well as traditional attires for all ages. Old Boy was founded by 3 former Inanda New Town Comprehensive High School students, Sisa Sibiya (21), Sihle Gwala (21) and Sifiso Phakathi (22). The idea of starting OldBoy was born mid-2015 and everything started coming together early this year.

These young entrepreneurs are currently working from Inanda as they are still growing the brand until they have the power to move to the city centre. However, they don’t only work with clients in Inanda but the whole of Durban and surroundings.

“My love for fashion started in the family I grew up in and I went on to work with Lucky Khuzwayo, the man behind DRG (DR Glentin) another eThekwini based brand. With the knowledge gained through my relationship with him I dreamt of owning my own brand and told Sisa and Sihle about this idea which they loved and agreed to us coming together and forming OldBoy” says Sifiso.

“We are young boys from Inanda who are in this industry for the love of fashion and have always wanted to be our own bosses like The Great David Tlale Sisa adds.

Other than designing and making clients look and feel Huate, OldBoy Brand also specialise in styling and image consultancy.
